Buyer Beware of DVD Professional and CopyExtra.com

If you are interested in DVD software and are looking for a product... BEWARE OF DVD PROFESSIONAL AND COPYEXTRA.COM

In my experience, CopyExtra promises a lot and delivers both poor product and poor service. I purchased what was suppose to be an integrated DVD program to edit, master, rip and burn dvds. However what I recieved was not at all what was promised. I recieved a zip file of # of programs and some support files. The software I recieved was old versions - like real old.

I tried to get my money refunded, but they instead gave me the NEW and IMPROVED version of their software. I find out that it is not new, and not improved. In fact, the package of freeware they sold me ...

(yes, they sold me freeware - of course I did not know it was freeware at the time)

...the package of freeware they sold me was organized even worse than the first version. And the support info was full of dead links. Then, to cap this off, I find out that this all in one solution is missing something quite important - a way to burn to CD/VCD/SVCD/DVD. Sure, they provided me with a link to download Nero's 30 day free trial. What good is that? In thirty days I have to sink more money into an already obsolete package.

I have included for everyone the copies of my emails with the company:

Dear DVD Professional
Thank you for seeking to provide valuable software for users who, like me are on a limited budget for discretionary spending (ie hobbies and toys :-D ).

However, I have now been trying to make use of your program package and am unsatisfied. I did not expect a repackage of many different, non-integrating programs. I was shopping for something that would be more user friendly. So far I have found that these individual programs are of outdated versions - some are several versions old. Not all of these programs allow you to get free updates and to get this to work will require even more expense, thereby negating the perceived value I was purchasing.

Therefore, please refund my payment of 39.95.

Again, I appreciate that you are seeking to provide a value. Unfortunately this is simply not going to suit my needs.

Thank you for your service and professionalism,
Stewart Oliver

Dear DVD Pro, I am still dissatisfied and becoming more and more aggrivated.

Now, I apologize if I have overlooked something in this DVD Professional Plus, and if I am please let me know - however, there is not any software for burning to a cd to make the vdc/svcd. There are links to download a trial version of Nero. However, this is not what I expected, nor is it the product you claim to provide.

If I pay for a program that is suppose to be all inclusive, it better be all inclusive. And before you give me some smug, blow off the customer response I would like to know if you have actually tried to use this stuff?

The guides are horrible - they DO NOT coincide with the actual programs. For example, the DVD2AVI guide lists and illustrates options that are not available in the actual program. Here is the biggest slap in the face - regarding the VCD Galaxy console. The console has a help file which reads:
----------------------

How Do I Use It ?

Simple. Just go to :- 1. http://vcdgalaxy.cjb.net/
2. Click on the 'Guides' Link.
3. Select the 'How To Use the ComboPack' Link.
4. Follow the guide.
--------------------------

You go to vcdgalaxy.cjb.net and tell me where the "Guides" link is? NOWHERE!!!!!

This is so ridiculous - even if I do get this to somehow work it is causing me a major frustration and as far as I can tell I am going to have to buy Nero or something similar to actually burn the disc.

And don't tell me I can use the free trial - what good is that after 90 days.

Listen to your name of your product. DVD Professional... DVD Pro has obviously spent a ton of time and money developing great sales pages and web pages, they create a great image, give it a great name AND THEN hand me a piece of junk.

So refund my money please so I can cool down and actually relax and go find an option and product that delivers on its promises, please - do not waste my time anymore. =================================

I can not believe how more and more disgusted I am getting now. I just found out that VCD Galaxy is Freeware! You sold me freeware?! What is wrong with you people? I can get this for FREE from the main site (http://go.to/vcdgalaxy/)

Oh, this gets even better - from the main site I can get a newer version (2.6), you sold me 2.5 and have no functional support! ... whoa, crap... now it seems that version 2.7 is available! Wait, no it has been available since August 21, 2001... Too bad you guys did not look at the site.

Oh, check this out... they have guides here, I mean actually have guides that you can access for free... it is not like they just say they have this info available when it is not, but it is ACTUALLY available!

Why is it that an individual or group that seems to not have worked on this for 4 years and 11 months can actually provide better service at no cost than you people charge for today?

So are you ready to refund my money? I mean, I know how downloadable software works - in the sense that it costs you almost nothing to provide a copy of your product to me. There is no packaging, no shipping, no cd's even. The cost for running the site is so negligible compared to the cost of making a copy available.

You really should just refund my money and you know it. You know that although you want to pridefully refuse my demand for a refund, you really should do that anyway. You have nothing to gain at all. You know that if the role was reversed and you were the dissatisfied customer, you would agree with me 100% and would want your money returned.

So please do this asap.

Sincerely,
Stewart Oliver

This is where it already falls apart. I should have picked up on the first line, "Don't spend $1000 on a DVD Burner" When did a DVD Burner cost $1000?
Lie #2
"all-inclusive software" is misleading. What it really is is a pack of miscellaneous programs from different
authors/programmers that do not work together very well. It is not "all inclusive" as I had to search for drivers and such to make things work.

Here is some text taken directly from the FAQ files, you tell me if this sounds "all inclusive":
==================
VCDEasy v1.0.9 FAQ
==================
Q: I keep getting a "No CD Writer Selected" on the CD Writer line.

A: No Cd/Cd Burner Devices has been detected, the CDRDAO scan has not been launched or failed, surely because the ASPI drivers (required by CDRDAO) is not installed or does not work properly. You can check if
the ASPI drivers is installed with "aspichk.exe" (available at http://www.fireburner.com/downloads.shtml). If you need to install them, use aspi32.exe (http://www.fireburner.com/downloads.shtml) or use
ForceASPI 1.7 (http://www.doom9.org/software.htm , decompress it (with PowerArchiver http://www.powerarchiver.com/ for example), run DUMPASPI.BAT to backup your current Aspi layer, then run INSTASPI.BAT and reboot when it tells you to). After that, you may need to re-activate CDRDAO manually in the VCDEasy settings page.

For less than a night at the movies, you'll get our all-inclusive software and easy, full-color instructions to Copy ANY DVD to a CD-R! Yes, the same CD-R's you've purchased in packs of 100 or more can now become an integral part of your multimedia library with EXACTLY the SAME QUALITY as those DVD's you've been forced to shell out upwards of $20 each in stores.

Lie #3

Hmmm - a night at the movies = $5 gas, $7.50 ticket, $10 popcorn and soda = $22.50

Lie #4
If you know anything about DVD's and CD's you know that it is not possible to get the same quality on a CD for a full length movie. A standard DVD holds 4.7 GB and a CD holds 700 MB. 1 Gigabyte is equal to 1024 megabytes, so 4.7 GB is 4812.3 MB, which is 6.87 times larger. The amount of compression required is immense, so the sound and picture quality is greatly reduced.

You're not going to find an easier, more complete or more advanced way to convert your movies, WE
GUARANTEE IT!
DVD Professional is the ORIGINAL, all-in-one, most up to date product ever! The thousands of hours spent developing this product for you is worth the ridiculously low price below! How can we say this? Because it's our job to stay on the cutting edge of this technology.

Lie #5
There is an easier, more complete and more advanced way to convert movies.

Lie #6
WE GUARANTEE IT! No they don't! They don't guarantee anything. Remember, when I was still disatisfied and told them there was an easier, more complete, more advanced way, they just started ignoring me!

Lie #7
"Most up to date" - I told you already that parts of the package were several versions old. And the next version they sent included software authored in 2001 - 4 years old!
